Neste MY Renewable Diesel is not conventional biodiesel. Neste’s renewable diesel is a pure hydrocarbon fuel with a similar chemical composition to fossil diesel, and the fuel’s chemical composition corresponds to the highest quality fossil diesel fuels.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is chemically similar to fossil diesel fuel and meets the same ASTM D975 specification as fossil diesel, as well as the European EN 15940 fuel standard.

It is ready to be used in any diesel engine without modifications. Neste MY Renewable Diesel can be used in its neat form (HVO100) or blended with fossil diesel at any ratio.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel’s chemical composition corresponds to the highest quality fossil diesel fuels, but it is made of renewable raw materials, not with crude oil. 

The product has excellent storage properties and it is well-suited for very cold weather conditions, down to -32°C / -26 F*. In fact its cold performance is better than that of fossil diesel, as the high cetane number ensures efficient and clean combustion.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel meets the specifications of both the ASTM D975 2-D standard in the U.S. and the European EN15940 standard. The EN 15940 certification assesses fuels in line with strict emission limit values, particulate filter life, long-term engine durability, engine performance, and cold weather performance.

The use of Neste MY Renewable Diesel is approved by multiple engine manufacturers globally in heavy transport, construction machinery, and car manufacturing, such as Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar, Volvo Trucks, Paccar, Mack, John Deere, Mercedes Trucks, Scania, DAF, Komatsu Liebherr, BMW Group, Renault, Citroën and Peugeot.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel’s high quality makes it a higher performance fuel than traditional biodiesel products.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel can be used in any diesel engine as such or with any ratio of fossil diesel. Most biodiesel can only be used in a low blend – for example, up to 7% under European standard EN 15490 and 5% under US standard ASTM D975*.

With proper handling, Neste MY Renewable Diesel can also be stored for a long period, compared to biodiesels’ average six-month shelf life. 

It performs exceptionally well in cold temperatures, too – starting up more smoothly, and running perfectly down to -32°C/-26°F (biodiesel’s high cloud point means it struggles below 1°C)**.

Thanks to its similar chemical composition with fossil diesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel can be refueled directly into any diesel vehicle, without any modification to the vehicle or its engine. It can be used in its neat form (HVO100) or blended with fossil diesel at any ratio.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is produced at Neste refineries in Finland (Porvoo), the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and Singapore. Neste produces renewable diesel via its joint operation with Marathon Petroleum in Martinez, California.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is produced from renewable raw materials*, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste.

Neste uses a wide variety of raw materials to produce renewable products*. Waste and residues account for approximately 90% of our annual renewable raw material inputs globally*. We continue to work towards increasing the availability of raw materials, while also developing technologies to diversify our current portfolio with new scalable raw materials, including novel vegetable oils produced with regenerative agricultural practices.

Neste sources renewable raw materials globally from nearly 70 countries. We are committed to ensuring that all the renewable raw materials we use and the renewable products we produce always meet the relevant legal requirements in our markets (e.g. EU RED or US RFS 2). We select our renewable raw material suppliers carefully and monitor their performance, and source only traceable renewable raw materials.

We produce high-quality renewable products from renewable raw materials at our refineries in Finland, the Netherlands, and Singapore, as well as through our joint operation with Marathon Petroleum in Martinez, California. Our current total annual nameplate capacity is approximately 5.5 million tons of renewables.

When completed, Neste’s Rotterdam refinery capacity expansion project will further increase the company’s total production capacity of renewable products to 6.8 million tons annually in 2027.
