Using a renewable fuel to cut GHG emissions

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is based on NEXBTL technology we patented in 1997. NEXBTL turns renewable raw materials like wastes and oils into premium-quality renewable products.

Today, Neste MY is a proven HVO100 hydrotreated vegetable oil fuel that reduces greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) by up to 75%* over its lifecycle compared with fossil diesel.

Neste MY is designed for convenience. A ‘drop-in’ solution compatible with any diesel vehicle or equipment. Ready for use the instant you say, “It’s MY choice to accelerate MY carbon neutral journey.”

Fast facts: renewable diesel vs biodiesel

Renewable diesel and biodiesel both come from renewable sources. However, biodiesel (a Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) product) is not a hydrocarbon.

This gives renewable diesel – or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) – a clear advantage. As a pure hydrocarbon, it is chemically similar to fossil diesel. Which means this evolution in biofuel can be used in any diesel engine without any modifications, neat (R99) or blended at any ratio.

Plus, its high cetane number allows the fuel to combust with maximum efficiency, and keeps the engine cleaner than traditional biodiesel.

FAQ

What are the advantages of renewable diesel compared to fossil diesel?

Neste MY Renewable Diesel cuts your GHG (CO2e) emissions by up to 75%* over its lifecycle compared to fossil diesel.

It delivers the same high performance and range as fossil diesel without sulfur, oxygen, aromatic compounds, or other impurities – leading to purer, cleaner combustion.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel has a high cetane number. This means less exhaust emissions, typically reducing the impact on particle filters and potentially saving on fleet maintenance costs.

Unlike biodiesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel also does not attract water. With proper handling and storage, there is minimal risk of deterioration or microbial growth – ensuring you can safely store it for long periods.

Can I fill my car with Neste MY Renewable diesel?

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a drop-in fuel. Its similar chemical composition to fossil diesel means you can pour it into the tank of any diesel vehicle or piece of equipment (including passenger cars) without any engine modifications or investment in infrastructure – and immediately start cutting GHG emissions.

What is Neste MY Renewable Diesel (R99) made from?

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is made from 100% renewable raw materials such as waste and residues.

It is an HVO100 product – otherwise known as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) in its purest form – and meets the EN15940 specification for paraffinic diesel fuel.
