Neste MY vs biodiesel
Both fuels are made from 100% renewable raw materials. However, Neste MY is pure Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO100) – a hydrocarbon diesel chemically very similar to fossil diesel.

Conversely, Biodiesel is a Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) product and NOT a hydrocarbon. This impacts its compatibility. Most OEMs recommend using no more than 20%* biodiesel in a blend with HVO or fossil diesel.

Biofuels produced using esterification cannot match Neste MY’s consistency. The quality of FAME biofuels also differ depending on the raw materials.
Superior cetane
The higher the cetane number, the better your ignition performance. Biodiesels have a cetane score between 50 and 60. But with a number above 70, Neste MY Renewable Diesel gives you superior performance. It starts better than biodiesel in cold conditions, combusts with maximum efficiency, and potentially helps keep engines cleaner.
Lower cloud point
Cloud point – the point at which a fuel is affected by cold temperatures – is a major difference between HVO100 and biodiesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel’s -4°F cloud point means it runs perfectly in cold and arctic conditions. Biodiesel has more oxygen and can contain higher level of impurities, so it struggles in cooler temperatures both generally – and differently, depending on the raw material used. For example, soybean biodiesel has a cloud point of 34°F.
No storage time limit
Unlike biodiesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel does not attract water. With the right handling and storage, there is minimal risk of microbial growth – or a deterioration in fuel quality.
