Neste Oil closely involved in next year’s Millennium Youth Camp

The fifth international Millennium Youth Camp will be held in Finland in June next year and will bring together 60 young people interested in the natural sciences, mathematics, and technology from around the world. The week-long camp will give participants the opportunity to work on a scientific project related to an area of sustainable development supervised by a group of experts and the chance to learn more about Finnish innovations and research at various companies and universities.

“Neste Oil is known worldwide for its pioneering work in cleaner traffic fuels, and this is largely the result of the R&D and technology work that we do,” says Lars Peter Lindfors, Neste Oil’s Senior Vice President, Technology. “Young people have a key role to play in taking society forward and helping solve future challenges, and the Millennium Youth Camp offers participants an excellent chance to experience things and be inspired first hand and brings science and technology closer to their lives.”

Application process has started

The first phase of the application process began on 15 October and will close on 15 December. 200 applicants will be selected for the second round on 3 February 2014 and will be asked to draw up their own plan for a project related to the themes of the 2014 camp.

The names of the 60 participants chosen for the camp will be announced on 17 March 2014 and will be chosen by representatives from Finnish universities and Millennium Youth Camp partner companies.

The main organizers of the Millennium Youth Camp are Technology Academy Finland, Finland's National LUMA Centre (University of Helsinki), and Aalto University. Neste Oil is one of the corporate partners behind the camp, together with Kemira, Nokia, Rovio, and UPM. A number of other Finnish companies and organizations are also involved. Neste Oil is also one of the main corporate partners of the Millennium Technology Prize, which is awarded every second year.
