Neste opens its first high-power charging service for heavy-duty vehicles along highway 3 at the Linnatuuli service station in Finland

Neste accelerates the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) by opening its first high-power charging stations for its business customers with heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) in Finland. The service will be available in the second half of 2024 at the Neste Janakkala Linnatuuli service station, located along the main highway 3.
HDVs produce more than one third of road traffic emissions in Finland. The high-power charging service for HDVs that is located outside company premises and depot areas complements Neste’s portfolio of solutions offered in Finland to support the transition to lower-emission transport.
“Our renewable fuels, Neste Lataus electric vehicle charging solutions for company depots and business locations, and Neste MY Uusiutuva LatausTM high-power charging service for light and medium-duty EVs are now complemented by a new solution that helps our customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The high-power charging service for HDVs we are opening at the Neste Janakkala Linnatuuli service station, is a pilot that we are happy to develop in collaboration with our partners DB Schenker and Volvo Trucks. Based on our customers’ needs, we will plan where to expand our high-power charging service for HDVs, which requires considerable investments,” says Risto Karppinen heading Sustainable Growth in Neste’s Marketing & Services business unit.
“More and more logistics companies have started to invest in electric heavy duty solutions. It is great news that Neste will open a high-power charging service for HDVs at the Neste Linnatuuli station. Its location between the capital region and Tampere supports our customers and helps them optimize the charging of their electric HDV as efficiently as possible, especially when driving with large total weights. The target of Volvo Trucks is that half of its global sales of new HDVs is electric in 2030,” says Janne Silvonen, Commercial and Technical Manager Electromobility, Volvo Finland Ab.

Located on highway 3, the high-power charging stations for HDVs at the Neste Janakkala Linnatuuli service station are designed and dimensioned to serve large vehicles and to be user-friendly for the drivers. The charging stations include drive-through parking spaces that can accommodate long combination vehicles, and the first liquid-cooled satellite chargers in Finland allow continuous, high-power charging at 400 kW. The public Neste MY Uusiutuva Lataus, Neste’s high-power charging service for light and medium-duty EVs, will also be opened at the Neste Janakkala Linnatuuli service station in 2024. This will bring the service station’s total charging capacity to 1,600 kW, and it can be increased further according to customers’ needs.
“We have focused on safety and a good customer experience in the design of our high-power charging service. At our service station, the high-power charging station for HDV’s will be located close to the highway to allow a quick recharge of the vehicle, while the drivers can refill their own energy reserves at the station’s restaurant. Customer feedback has indicated that these are priorities for professional drivers who are often on a tight schedule,” says Karppinen.
